Annina's Story
On June 30, 2009, when Annina was 12-1/2 years old, she was diagnosed
with a form of bone cancer called Osteosarcoma, a rare cancer primarily
found in adolescents and young adults. Soon after she started her eight-months of intensive treatment,
including 18 rounds of chemotherapy and state-of-the-art limb-salvage
surgery (for which she was mostly in the hospital at Kaiser Permanente),
she decided she wanted to devote time to raising money for Sarcoma
cancer awareness and research -- so others do not have to endure the
treatment she has had. Annina’s family found the KidsAreStars.com web
site, which makes it easy to put Annina’s artwork and photographs to “work” raising money for Sarcoma research.
In the first four months of this fundraiser, Annina raised over $1,000
for research. As of May 2010, KidsAreStars donates 45% of the proceeds
from this fundraiser to the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative.
